I would like to thank you very much for the invitation to act as a judge at this 1st World Championship for Terrier breeds. Since 1996 I have been a judge for utility dogs and also a judge for obedience. It has always been an honor for me to judge international exams. I have already been to the FCI World Championships three times, once to the FCI World Championship for tracking dogs and to several World Championships for different breeding associations (Rottweilers, Hovawarts, Boxers, French Shepherds) and have also been able to judge many qualifying competitions in different countries.

As a functionary, I am a member of the board of the Austrian Kennel Club "Österreichischer Kynologenverband - ÖKV" as a performance adviser and I am president of the FCI Utility Dog Commission since 2022. As such, I am pleased about the initiative to set up a World Championship for terrier breeds in my home country of Austria. The Airedale Terrier in particular is a working dog breed and the maintenance and consolidation of the working dog characteristics is of enormous importance for the future of the breed. The international performance comparison is an important step.

All beginnings are difficult. All the more thanks and recognition to the organizers of this event! It is a challenge to organize a World Championship without knowing how many nations and how many participants can be expected. Even if, as expected, the number of participants is not very high, it will be a worthy setting, in line with the event. It is a milestone set here in the hope that this 1st World Championship will be followed by many more.

I would like to thank everyone who contributes to the success of this event. I wish the participants every success. In addition to the sporting competition, this exam also offers the opportunity to make new friends and deepen existing ones.
